When dark, coarse hair appears in places that may make you uncomfortable—on the face, neck, abdomen, breasts, legs or underarms—it may be time to consider hair removal with the LightSheer diode laser. The LightSheer Diode Laser System is a state-of-the-art system specially designed to remove unwanted hair. LightSheer produces a beam of highly concentrated light, which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. Highly controlled flashes of light are selectively absorbed by hair-filled follicles lying below the skin’s surface. The absorbed light heats the hair, which damages or destroys the regrowth potential of the follicle. The system’s design provides client comfort during treatment, minimal risk of infection, speed and accuracy.

Treatment for Leg Veins – Lumenis One™ and Sclerotherapy

What do I do next?

Top of Page

Varicose veins, usually a large, raised deeper blue vein that is described as ‘ropey’, need different treatment from discolored non-raised clusters, called spider veins. Now, using the new combined technologies of the Lumenis One™ system, unsightly leg veins can be treated. Lumenis One™ is equipped with two different light technologies. The laser specialist will use either or both, depending on your veins.

The laser component of the Lumenis Onet™ system is used to treat larger, deeper veins (reticular veins). A small spot of laser light travels through the skin and is absorbed by the blood within the vein, on the basis of its color. The smaller, spider veins are treated using light energy, the second component of the Lumenis One ™ System. The light energy is absorbed by the blood, changed to heat, and the vein is destroyed. This Intense Pulse Light (IPL) technology is exclusive to the Lumenis Onet™ System.

Sclerotherapy is a popular method of reducing or eliminating spider veins. A solution called a sclerosing agent is injected into the veins; this solution causes an irritation to the inner lining of the vein, resulting in the collapse of the vessel. The body then reabsorbs the “bruise” over the next 3-6 weeks. A small gauge needle is used to perform the injections and most clients relate the discomfort to an ant bite. The number of treatments needed differs from client to client. An average five treatments is required in most cases. The treatment sessions last approximately 30 minutes.

Skin Resurfacing -

Pixel Laser

PIXEL is our newest laser. As always, we offer state of the art technology. Pixel provides deep skin resurfacing that smooths wrinkles and scars. Historically, CO2 lasers have been used to burn the top layer of skin and bring freshness and smoothing as the healing process completes, which takes six weeks and beyond. Think Samantha on Sex in the City--she had a laser resurfacing and had to shroud herself to go out in public.

PIXEL can smooth the skin with literally no downtime (no shrouding) by using the laser to evaporate pin point cells down to the dermal level. New skin fills in these pore size 'pixels' and stem cells begin to produce collagen under those lines and scars. Between 40-60% of the skin is treated in a session, giving maximum benefits with minimal trauma.

The treatments last approximately 40 minutes, after a 20 minute topical anesthetic application ( you get to relax in our massage recliner during this). A light sunburned feeling and flush lasts 24-72 hours, followed by light exfoliation for several days. The skin is looking visibly refreshed over the next two weeks, with full results realized over the next two months.

We are recommending two to three treatments for the optimal change in the skin tissue. The Pixel is safe for all skin types, including Asian, African-American and Hispanic skin.

Permanent Cosmetics

Also known as micro-pigmentation, permanent cosmetics involve a process where art and science are brought together by a delicate, sophisticated technique. Color pigments are expertly placed within the dermis (second layer) of the skin. This process is used for cosmetic and corrective purposes and creates a lasting effect to accentuate and improve the definition of eyes, eyebrows and lips. Skin colors are formulated on an individual basis. The actual procedure takes one to two hours, and after one to three weeks, the procedure heals completely. Permanent makeup will fade after three to five years, and can be freshened with a touch-up. Permanent cosmetics are employed not only for enhancement of natural features, but also to camouflage scars, as an adjunct before chemotherapy or after breast surgery to create an areola.

IPL Photorejuvenation

Intense Pulsed Light Photorejuvenation is an exciting new FDA-approved technology that can correct a variety of skin conditions and facial imperfections, such as age spots, birthmarks, fine lines and other blemishes. The IPL is a broad-spectrum light that lightens, brightens and smoothes the skin. The light targets red and brown pigments, allowing cell renewal and “lifting off” the pigmented cells through accelerated dermal turnover.

Botox® Cosmetics

Botox® Cosmetics causes muscles to relax, thus lessening facial wrinkles including crow’s feet, forehead, scowl lines and more. Botox® Cosmetics (botulinum toxin Type A) was approved by the FDA in 1989 for treatment of lazy eye, uncontrolled muscle spasms around the eye and facial nerve disorders. As research continued, cosmetic uses for Botox were developed.

Facial muscles attach directly from bone to skin. As a result, every time you make an expression, the skin creases. After years, wrinkles are formed. Botox® Cosmetics relaxes the muscles temporarily (usually for two to four months), enabling the skin to become smoother. The surgeon administers the Botox® Injections with a few quick injections taking only seconds, and the final results are seen within 48-72 hours.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a particle skin resurfacing used to correct hyperpigmentation (discolored skin), hyperkeratosis (hyperpigmentations that are small raised red or brown bumps), melasma (discoloration from birth control pills or pregnancy), and milia or comedones (whiteheads or blackheads).

A key benefit to microdermabrasion is that there is no downtime, and the client can return to normal activities immediately. Improvement is gradual over the course of multiple treatments. The elimination of clogged pores and dead skin cells enhances the effects of additional skin care products and treatments, and allows your makeup to enhance your skin.

In a process similar to a gentle ‘sand blasting,’ aluminum oxide crystals under pressure are directed toward the skin surface and rapidly suctioned away. Dead cells and sebaceous plugs on clogged pores are removed, and one’s own natural collagen formation is stimulated by the minor skin abrasions. Immediately after treatment, the skin feels polished and very clean. Typically, six treatments performed two weeks apart are recommended, and a series of treatment may be repeated as you and your practitioner decide.

Chemical Peels

Light to medium chemical peels for face and body are custom-designed to counteract signs of aging, hyperpigmentation, scarring, trauma scarring, melasma (discoloration from birth control pills or pregnancy) and pre-cancerous skin conditions.

Peels involve application of a chemical solution to sun-damaged, unevenly pigmented and finely wrinkled facial areas. By peeling away the skin’s top layers, imperfections are diminished, and new skin is rejuvenated, giving the skin an improved texture and appearance.
The strength of the chemicals and the length of time the solutions are left on the skin vary. Generally, the most superficial peels use alphahydroxy acids (AHA) such as glycolic or salicylic acid. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels are stronger, and yield greater depth of the peel. They require client medication prior to the process and are performed exclusively by a physician at our facility.

Both AHA and TCA peels are short, safe procedures. A blueberry L-TCA peel is a medium depth chemical peel used to treat acne scarring and melasma. This is a revolutionary medical-strength procedure with croton oil to facilitate a deeper penetration and contains blueberry extract for increased antioxidant protection.
The Timeless “overnight” peel is safe and very effective, stimulating significant cell turnover and protein synthesis, resulting in smoother, denser and more hydrated skin. This peel works well for treating fine lines and wrinkles, photo damage and acne.
The Purity Peel is a blend of acids producing a moderate depth peel that can heal acne lesions. The result is a soothing exfoliating, medical strength peel that is excellent for acne of all grades.

Ethnic Skin Care

What do I do next?

Top of Page

Our skilled medical aestheticians specialize in Asian, African-American and Hispanic skin. The aging process occurs more slowly in those with darker complexions because the dermis layer (underneath the top layer of skin or epidermis) is thicker and is comprised of more collagen. A full variety of skin care options exist for ethnic skin, including microdermabrasion, chemical peels and individualized homecare programs.

The Relume System, developed by Lumenis, is the first procedure to offer a practical solution for clients with psoriasis, stretch marks, scars and other types of leukoderma (skin that has reduced pigment such as acne scars, surgical scars, skin grafts or burns). Relume is targeted light technology, delivering therapeutic 290 to 320 nanometer light, which darkens the scar so it more closely resembles the surrounding skin. Eight to 14 weekly treatments are typically required to re-establish 75% or more of the pigment. These sessions are painless and take between a few minutes to one hour, depending upon the area requiring treatment.

The ClearLight Acne Photo Clearing (APC) therapy gives clients a new option in treating moderate inflammatory acne without side effects, discomfort, photosensitivity or downtime. ClearLight uses the innovative Acne PhotoClearing (APC) technology to destroy the most common bacteria that causes acne- quickly and easily. ClearLight is one of the safest acne treatments available. Its APC technology uses light that is UV-safe. The ClearLight uses a high intensity narrow band of light source of 405-420 nanometers, which will trigger the production of endogenic porphyrins. These porphyrins attack and destroy the acne causing bacteria within the skin. ClearLight treatment can take place even if your physician is treating you with antibiotics or Accutane. Two fifteen-minute treatments a week for four weeks has proven to clear acne up to 80 percent.
